Cocobolo, scientifically known as Dalbergia retusa, comes from the drier mountain ranges of Central America, from Panama to southwestern Mexico. As a member of the Dalbergia family, it is closely related to the rosewoods of Brazil and the East Indies. Cocobolo trees can reach heights of up to 80 feet, but rarely exceed a diameter of 2 feet. The wood features a dynamic grain pattern and rich tonal color.
